It seems there's no end to Cecelia Ahern's talents.
The Taoiseach's younger daughter last night imported Hollywood glamour to Dublin's O'Connell Street as
the red carpet was rolled out for Oscar winner Hilary Swank.
The entire Ahern clan arrived in perfect time for the scheduled start of the European premiere of 'P.S. I Love You',
Cecelia's debut novel, at the Savoy.
With no time to waste, a dapper Bertie quickly followed in the footsteps of Cecelia and
her athlete-turned-actor boyfriend David Keoghan up the red carpet into the cinema.
Ahead of his scheduled appearance at the Mahon Tribunal today, Mr Ahern braved the flashing
cameras and microphones.
"I'm delighted for Cecelia and all the cast. I met them when they were doing the production so it is
good to be here," he said. "I hope people like it now, particularly the Irish shots. I think Ireland comes
across very well in it."
However, last night it was Cecelia's turn for the spotlight and the beaming author said she was delighted
the star of the film had jetted in for the European premiere.
"I'm excited, I can't wait for all my family to see it and everybody," she said. "I've been talking about it
for so long and finally the time is here. I'm really proud of how it looks."
And, just like the movie, the writer revealed her boyfriend David also leaves little romantic notes in her
luggage when she travels abroad for work.
Her proud mother, Miriam, accompanied by her partner restaurateur Terry McCoy, said: "It is lovely to see
'P.S. I Love You' written on the carpet."
In the biting cold, attempts were made to rouse the waiting crowds as they waited a further hour for Swank,
who arrived from London.
And Swank managed to go a step further than the Taoiseach, as she picked up and held a baby for the classic
politicians' pic, as she signed autographs and chatted with fans.
A shivering Swank donned her white woollen coat adding she wished she had more time to explore Ireland but
had to fly back to the US for work.
"Ireland is such as important character in the movie, it is such a beautiful country I wish I could have spent
more time here sightseeing," she said.
Beautiful
Swank said she had enjoyed Ms Ahern's book, describing it as a "beautiful love story" and a reminder of what
is important in life. It was after reading the book that director Richard LaGravenese decided to rewrite the
screenplay so he could take the movie to Ireland.
The cast including Swank, 'Friends' star Lisa Kudrow and actor Gerard Butler, spent three weeks filming in the
Co Wicklow area.
The Oscar winning star of 'Boys Don't Cry' and Clint Eastwood's 'Million Dollar Baby' said she hoped to return
to Ireland to work in the future.
Others attending the premiere included Ms Ahern's sister Georgina and her Westlife singer-husband
Nicky Byrne, singer Ronan Keating and his wife Yvonne and 'Fair City' actress and writer Claudia Carroll.
